NIL deals are vetted like endorsements now
A brand signing a college athlete to an NIL deal, or a club signing a prospect, runs the same kind of digital diligence a company runs before hiring an executive. Old posts, deleted-but-cached content, and off-field incidents get reviewed before a signature happens. The review usually happens without the athlete in the room.
This matters most at the moment a career is accelerating, which is exactly when there is the least time to deal with it. We build the picture the sponsor or club will build ahead of time. This lets you see and address potential issues before diligence begins.
What a sponsor's legal team actually checks
Social media history from every account associated with the athlete, including accounts made before any public profile existed. Old posts that read differently now than when they were made, and any deleted content still cached or archived somewhere. Off-field incidents, citations, or disputes that are a matter of public record. Prior representation history and any disputes connected to a former agent or agency.
We also work with agencies. When a firm vets a prospect before signing them, we run the same check. This ensures the agency knows exactly what is out there before negotiations start.
